Stopping By The Lake On A Sunny Evening

You know life is good.

I'm sitting here with my little notebook, down by the lake with a cold beer in my hand, writing in this little blog and thinking "life is good". Well actually I am thinking that and two other things. One is that it is very hard to see the screen of my little notebook when I am outside of the little house on the lake because of the glare of the sun, and two, that I am probably going to have one hell of a headache in the morning.

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL 10.1-Inch Royal Blue Netbook - 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)The good news is that Buttons, my editor and sometimes co-author, has finally figured out that when he gets thirsty he can actually drink the water from the lake. Until today he didn't quite understand that concept. I love our dog but I never said he was all that bright. As I write this there are two people in a canoe fishing. Kind of hard to see them, the sun is in my face, but they appear to be a young couple, possibly teenagers, one male, one female and it appears he is trying to teach her how to fish.

The problem with trying to teach a women how to fish is this. They don't quite understand the concept of the whole thing, not all women mind you, I am sure Tonya can out fish me anytime, but the average woman. The idea is to fish, not necessarily to catch, after all if the idea were to catch, they would call it "catching" not fishing, unlike the concept of fishing for a man, fishing for a fish is supposed to be relaxing, enjoyable, and if you don't like what's on the end of the line you can throw it back. Alright, technically you can do the same with a man I guess. Now that I think of it, I was thrown back, but then that is water under the bridge.

It is also that time of the day when all the lake residents start to cruise around the lake in their party boats (pontoon boats to some). It is like an evening parade as they all have their cocktails on board and cruise counter clockwise around the lake, waving at everyone they see, and we all wave back, even though I don't know them I do wave back. I have to admit, I do love this life on the lake, I am a pretty lucky SOB. I've got my little house on the lake, my woman, my notebook and my dog. I ask you can life get any better than this?

What? A question over there? You...with your hand up. Why will I have a headache tomorrow? When one stops at ones friends house and drinks one (or two or more) beers than he should, it tends to be a contributing factor as to how one will feel the next day.

But then, life is good.

  1. Does it get any better than that..? I like Jon Stewart's phrase 'moments of zen', but for my own personal use, without the cynicism.

I'd describe this as one such sublime moment of peace and comfort. Good fo you!!
