I always think there's a band

I admit I am a fan of old Broadway musicals and movies. My favorite has to be "The Music Man", the move came out in 1962. No matter how many times I watch it there is always something I see for the first time, or a line in it which makes me think about something a different about life. My favorite line in this one...

Bottom Looks Like Up

There was a song at one time which had the line "Been down so low, the bottom looks like up. " I can't remember the song or who did it but I certainly can understand what it means. I suppose it could actually refer to a number of things. In my case it was when I was dealing with depression, but it could also mean substance abuse issues or financial problems. You know, I just realized these are all related.

Ice Out

So here I sit at the little house on the lake and I have made it through another winter. No the mergansers haven't yet returned, but the ice is melting which means the mergansers can't be far behind. I don't like winter and it really has nothing to do with the weather, although the cold and snow certainly doesn't help. No, winter is the time when it always seems the tunnel, which in summer seems so short and the light at the end of it isn't a train, gets longer again and you think the light really is a train.

The sky is grey and so am I

I'm looking out the window of the little house on the lake and it looks like it is going to snow. Of course the weather people say we might get only an inch, but I am not putting a lot of stock in what they say. Every year I dislike winter more and more. It's bad enough we have had snow up the yazoo and it has been cold enough to freeze a certain part of a witch's anatomy, but as usual every other year I have the usual problem trying to save the little house on the lake. Each time it is harder and harder not to just give up.
